Why Use Wheel Spacers? Benefits for Performance, Fitment & Style

Wheel spacers are one of the simplest upgrades enthusiasts can make to improve both the appearance and performance of their vehicle. By positioning the wheel farther outward from the hub, spacers create a wider stance that can enhance handling, improve wheel fitment, and give the car a more aggressive, motorsport-inspired look.

For performance vehicles like Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Porsche, and other exotic platforms, wheel spacers are often used to achieve flush fitment without replacing factory wheels. This can help eliminate the “sunken wheel” appearance while improving visual balance and road presence.

Beyond aesthetics, wheel spacers may also contribute to improved cornering stability by slightly widening track width, which can reduce body roll and create a more planted feel during spirited driving. They are also useful when fitting aftermarket wheels, larger brake kits, or performance suspension components that require additional clearance.

How to Measure for Formula Dynamics Wheel Spacers:

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface and make sure the wheels are straight.
  2. Align a straight edge from the top center edge of the fender to the base of the tire.

  3. Use a ruler, measuring tape, or caliper to measure the gap between the outer edge of the Rim or Tire and the inner edge of the straight edge. Decide  Measure in millimeters for the most accurate fitment.

  4. Check the gap at the face of the tire and the face of the rim for the desired measurement & style. Measuring to the face of the Rim is generally more aggressive versus the farthest point of the tire.
  5. Decide how close you want the wheel to sit to the fender. For a flush fitment, subtract 2–3mm from your measured gap for safety clearance.
    1. Example: if the measured gap is 15mm, a 12mm spacer is usually the safer choice.
  6. Repeat the measurement on the front and rear wheels, because fitment may be different.
